To: Parents and Guardians of Faith Formation Students

In response to the Covid-19 (novel corona virus) outbreak and in keeping with the instructions received from the Office of Faith Formation of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, no more in-person faith formation classes at St. Augustine Parish will be held for the rest of this catechetical school year (March through May).

However, students are still required to complete the remaining course work. Sister Nona and the catechists are actively working on an alternative way to do this.

About two weeks prior to the First Communion and Confirmation Rites, Sister Nona will meet with parents, sponsors, and students. This is to ensure that the first communicants and Confirmation candidates are ready to and know how to receive the Sacraments. Outside of these required meetings, all other pre-scheduled meetings such as the ongoing faith formation sessions are canceled.

Please continue to monitor St. Augustine’s Faith Formation page and our parish Facebook page for more updates.

If you have any questions, please send them to staugustineffp@gmail.com or call the Parish Faith Formation office at 650-873-2878.

Please continue to pray for those who have been impacted by this outbreak. Thank you and may God continue to bless you.

The Faith Formation Program of St. Augustine

A Note from the Director of Religious Education

We are grateful to the Good Lord for giving us the opportunity of serving and ministering to this wonderful community of Saint Augustine.

We have been blessed with committed volunteer-catechists who generously share their faith, time, and talent with your children, whom God entrusts in our care.

Each year we are graced with cooperative, collaborative and participative parents such as you, who help make the Faith Formation Program (CCD) vibrant and dynamic.

We pray for God's continuous blessing as we journey and work hand in hand in bringing about God's kingdom in our midst.

It is the love and support from the St. Augustine staff, parishioners, and CCD parents that inspires us all to carry on.

Outlined below is pertinent information about our program; how to register your child in the Faith Formation Program; program requirements; and/or how to grow deeper in faith as an adult.

Once again, welcome to the Religious Education -Faith Formation Program!

Your brother and sister in Christ,

Fr. Ed Dura, Spiritual Director of the Faith Formation Program

Sr. Nona M. Barairo, sfcc, Director of the Faith Formation Program

Faith Formation is the newer term used for CCD.

The emphasis of Religious Education or Faith Formation is not only on catechesis and education but also on the overall spiritual-formation of a chid, teen or adult. Regardless of what term the program is called, parents and students alike still refer to the Religious Education or Faith Formation Program as CCD, which atually means Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.

The Call

  • To create and build Basic Ecclesial Communities of Faith among catechists, parents and   students through education; religious formation; and faith-lived experience; as a response to the call of the Spirit.

Our Vision

  • A worshiping community who witnesses, experiences and shares their faith.
  • A Community of believers formed in faith, through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Reconciliation, and Eucharist.

Our Mission

  • To echo God’s Word.
  • To reach out to all.

Our Priority

  • Faith Formation of Catechists
  • Faith Formation of the Students and Parents

A Journey of Faith

  • To journey with the children as they grow and learn how to FOLLOW JESUS as Catholic Christians.
  • To help the children in learning how to pray and celebrate with the parish.
  • To guide them in making moral decisions and in reaching out to those in need.

St. Augustine's Faith Formation Program uses (and recommends!) the Finding God program from 1st through 8th Grade. "Finding God presents the authentic teachings of the Catholic Church through active-learning techniques that allow children to participate, learn, and grow in faith and discipleship. Rooted in Ignatian spirituality, the Finding God program engages the whole child—mind, heart, body, and soul—uniquely guiding children to practice prayer and reflection, to explore scripture, and to find God in all things."  Loyola Press. The Faith Formation Program is intended to support the family and the church community in this mission and offers an integral formation of the child’s spiritual, moral, religious, intellectual, developmental, social, emotional and physical aspects.

CCD (Grades 1 through 6) & Confirmation (Grades 7 & 8)

Faith is a lifelong journey, undertaken in community, guided by the Spirit. and the family as the primary community in which faith is nurtured and shared.

Aims of the Program:

  • To help the children and youth experience, integrate and express the fullness of mature Christian faith at every age level, according to the stages of development.
  • To journey with the children and the youth to grow in faith through activities and reflections that involve the children/youth and their families in catechesis, prayer and living their faith.
  • To develop the children’s/youth’s appreciation of Sacred Scripture and familiarity with the Bible from a Catholic perspective.
  • To lead children/youth to come to a fuller understanding of the sacramental dimensions of faith and life.
  • To cultivate in the children/youth wonder and awe and to be open to the mystery of God’s presence.
  • To achieve in themselves self-esteem and develop an active concern for others.
  • To see themselves as part of a richly diverse faith community, and to celebrate their gifts and contribution to their parish.

Therefore, Saint Augustine Parish is at the service of families
to help form young Catholics.
